Awesome Females Series

Jem and the Holograms was such a big part of my childhood for my sister and I.  My cousin, who is about 9 months or so older than me, had a Jem themed party when we were kids.  She was super excited to dress up as Jem with matching hair, outfit, etc … and apparently so did every other girl that was invited to the party!  Poor kid, here she was the birthday girl and everybody else was dressed up the same way practically.  Expect me sister and I … we were the Misfits!  My sister dressed up as Pizzazz and I dressed up as Stormer and we looking frickin’ fantastic.  My Mom sewed some amazing outfits and we were so cool it’s not even funny.  We.  Were.  Awesome.  Anyway, I digress … I’m starting an Awesome Females Series and guess who kicks it off … you bet, it’s Jem!

These are some quick sketches that I posted to my Instagram feed that I’m hoping to flesh out and ink either digitally or traditionally with watercolor.  I’m thinking though, that I might give Jem a hair update – what do you think?  I wanted to make her a bit different than the 80’s Jem but I think it doesn’t do her justice.

I’m including 2 other Awesome Females I’ve drawn as well (i’ll post about them shortly) but I thought I’d officially kick it off with the truly outrageous Jem!
